Eilean Donan Castle - Scotland Eilean Donan sits on a rocky island where three lochs meet - Loch Long, Loch Alsh and Loch Duich. This is in the northern Highlands near Kyle of Lochalsh. The present castle was built on this site by Alexander II in the 13th century to protect against Viking raids, and given to Colin Fitzgerald. The strong keep was defence against all attempts to take the castle, including many raids by the MacDonalds of the Isles. |
